Out of 75 species, only 2 are cultivated

Coffee berries grow on a shrub belonging to the Rubiaceae family, forming the genus Coffea. Although there are more than 75 different species, only two are cultivated in various regions of the world: Coffea Arabica and Coffea Canephora, more commonly known as Robusta.

All coffee-producing countries are located in a zone between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, providing the crops with warm, humid conditions and constant temperatures.

Arabica plantations are located in the mountains or on plateaus, while Robusta is grown in the plains.

The origin of coffee, between legends and tradition

Relayed in one of the tales from One Thousand and One Nights, the story of the shepherd Kaldi is certainly the most well-known.

The story goes that, while grazing his goats in the mountains of Arabia, Kaldi discovered shrubs covered with small red fruits. Noticing the excitement that overcame his animals after grazing on the hills, the shepherd decided to speak to the Sufi monks (Muslim ascetics) in the region. They decided to pick these fruits, dry them, and prepare an infusion, which they drank with delight. Soon, they were overcome by a feverish agitation, which they interpreted as a divine revelation.”

It is with the same fervor and enthusiasm that, day after day since 1920, our traders ensure the selection of quality coffee for our clients, meeting each of their specific requirements.
